BaCC: The Fisker Family, Week Six
The past couple of weeks have been incredibly busy for me. I found a job, quit the job (couldn't do anything right, or at least that's how the manager acted), reconnected with old friends, and developed a kidney infection that sent me to the hospital. For the past couple of days, I've been recovering and watching South Park while in a painkiller stupor. I've also been writing this in spells as my cognitive capabilities permit. If it doesn't make any sense, blame the Vicodin.

Arik was adapting well to his new role of father. After helping to raise a house full of children that weren't his, it was nice to care for his own flesh and blood.

Troy was so excited about his first day of school that he didn't bother to chew his food. His antics were hilarious to Alexa, but bad table manners never amuse me.

Arik may have had some hand in the terrible manners.

Clifford came home after school and went straight to his guitar. He promised Arik he'd check on the babies occasionally while Arik was visiting his business. I wish Arik could have waited; everyone knows teens would rather goof off than take responsibility for anything.

Arik went to his club anyway to try out the new members of his band. Only one of the three Sims he hired had any real talent at a musical instrument, but Arik was able to find positions for the other two Sims.

Marylena became a bartender and really started dressing for the part.

The other guy became a cashier downstairs, where Arik had begun selling musical instruments. Arik hoped that he would be able to start turning a profit, or at least stop being such a drain on the houshold finances.

Later that afternoon, I was happy to see that Alexa brought home Orion from school.

Monday night was the twins' first birthday. It's traditional for the eldest twin to go first, but Cliffy got to the cake first with Hunter.

He grew up handsome, just like his daddy!

I brought Belladonna to the cake next.

Even though she grew up bald, she's still beautiful. I bet she'll grow up to outshadow the beauty of the famous Bella.

She'll have to work to have her grace, though.

Once the twins were toddlers, Cliffy started to be more involved in his little siblings' lives, helping out whenever he was needed.

The kids amuse themselves at the drawing table in the front yard. Even in a five bedroom house, we're low on space.

Arik stopped me on the front walk after I returned from work on Tuesday afternoon.

"Gretchen, I've loved you for as long as I've known you. That's why I want to give you this."

It was a gorgeous ring.

"Will you marry me?" He asked.

Of course I said yes!

We set the date for Wednesday. Arik said he wanted to get married as soon as possible to show all the other ladies of New Jennerica that he was finally and officially off the market.

We were waiting the extra day so that Alexa's birthday wouldn't be overshadowed.

Alexa grew up to be a lovely young lady. She announced that she was a fortune Sim, and wanted to become a world class ballerina.

With that, she scurried up to the ballet barre in Clifford's room and began practicing.

I went to Sartorial Success to pick up some new clothes for her. I also needed to find a wedding dress. The salesman tried his best to be helpful. "You look lovely, Mrs. Ray."

"It's Ms. Ray for now. But don't you think this dress looks a little... basegame-y?"

"I'm not sure what you mean by that, but it does look a bit matronly. You've got a wonderful figure that you should accentuate. I'll show you some of our other wedding dresses that might better suit you."

He showed me another dress that was more my style. I tried it on. This gown didn't make me look like the mother of five. In fact, I look like I did before I moved to New Jennerica: young and beautiful, and full of hope and possibilities. I had to buy it.

Alexa liked her new outfits, too. To complete her new looks, she even indulged in some makeup and a new hairstyle.

Wednesday afternoon was the big day. I left Arik in charge of inviting the guests and I knew it was inevitable that a few would be former flames of his. Turns out, the only person he didn't date on the guest list was Troy Charming.

Kaylynn Valjean attended, and she just loved Hunter. She's expecting a child of her own soon and she's hoping for a little boy.

Her preoccupation with Hunter kept her from flirting with my soon-to-be husband. She was about the only woman who didn't flirt with him that day. I tried not to let jealousy ruin my big day. Arik would be pledging faithfulness to me in just a few minutes; a caress on the cheek was nothing compared to that.

I recited the vows I had written as I slipped the ring on his shaking finger. I promised to love and treasure him, and to be faithful to him as long as I lived.

Then it came time for Arik to say his vows. He paused for a long time before he said the five worst words I've ever heard: "I'm sorry, Gretchen. I can't."

He turned and walked away. I could faintly hear Alexa yell "Where the hell do you think you're going?" But it didn't matter. Nothing mattered anymore.

I took seven steps before collapsing from the shock of it all. He didn't want to marry me. I gave everything up for him. I destroyed my marriage for him! I gave him two beautiful children! How could he!

Out of nowhere, a psychiatrist appeared.

He examined me as Alexa watched. I could hear her grumbling angrily under her breath, but I couldn't make out her words.

It wasn't until later that I found out she followed Arik inside and confronted him. He wasn't able to give her the answers she wanted, so she slapped him.

He reacted terribly. Even though she slapped him first, he had no excuse for what he did.

That didn't stop him from trying to explain it away and get back into my good graces. I told him I didn't want to hear it. I explained we could try to get along for the sake of our children, but we'd never be more than friends. I also told him that if he kept hitting Alexa that I would alert the authorities and have him removed from our home. It is his house, but it isn't right to hurt a kid no matter what.

You probably think I'm a little crazy for continuing to live with him. I just don't feel like I have much of a choice. With five kids, you've got to make sacrifices. If I moved out, I wouldn't be able to afford more than a two bedroom home, and I wouldn't be able to work most days. The teens would be able to watch the kids during the evenings, but I can't ask them to forsake their education just for my career.

So I tried not to let it bother me when Arik took Shelby Higgins to bed.

I looked for a distraction any place I could.

And sweet distraction came for me.

Being left at the arch affected everyone in the family, not just me. Cliffy started hitting the juice.

And Alexa continued to antagonize Arik. He deserved it. Fortunately for everyone, he stopped retaliating against her.

Alexa does have mean side, but everyone knows that underneath it all, she really loves her family.

My alien friends returned me home before sunrise the next morning. As I fell from the ship, I was surprised to not hear a lullaby chime. The aliens must have known I was just few days from my elder transition.

Troy had been pestering me for a few days to adopt a puppy for him. I guess he missed Craig's dog, Baby. After what happened Wednesday, I could use the support of a furry pal, too.

Just as Troy was leaving for school, the pet adoption officer arrived with our new family member. We kept the name the shelter gave him, Leroy.

Leroy grew up the same day.

It seems we got a very well-behaved dog, too. He went straight for the chew toy, never even glanced at the furniture. We all gushed over him for his good choices.

Troy loved him and played with him every day after school.

That day after school, it was Alexa who brought Danni Charming over to visit. The girls had been friends since childhood, even though Danni is a little older. I didn't think much of it.

Maybe I should have given the situation a little more consideration.

Alexa was heartbroken. I had no idea she hoped to get her first kiss from her brother's love interest.

She channeled her heartbreak into a creative outlet. I was glad that she choose something constructive to express her grief, but did she have to choose her brother's guitar to do it with?

I was abducted again the following night.

No one made a fuss over this abduction. Only Leroy came out to greet me when I returned.

Since I was no longer sharing a bed with Arik, I had to bunk with Troy in his room. He didn't seem to mind, but I don't want to stay in there once he becomes a teen. He'll need his privacy.

Arik was still an active father in his children's lives.

Troy continued to make friends with the little girls in the neighborhood. He thought it was the coolest thing ever that Lori Charming was also an alien child.

That afternoon, Alexa set her dinner on fire. She was eerily calm about the whole situation. I'm a little concerned she may be a bit... sociopathic.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a fire alarm installed in the kitchen, and no one had the presence of mind to call the fire brigade.

But Cliffy was my courageous little hero that day. He bravely rushed in and put out the fire without regard to his personal safety. Thanks to him, no one was injured and no items were permanently damaged.

After the fire was out, Arik carried Hunter to his birthday cake.

I did the same for Belladonna.

Both kids grew up well, but they didn't grow up in nice clothes. As soon as we had enough money, we'd go clothes shopping for them.

Arik went to his shop to help earn some money for them.

Clifford tagged along to provide the entertainment. It seemed he found a hardcore fan that night. Cliffy confided to me later that her earnestness creeped him out a little.

Alexa kept busy by selling lemonade to passersby.

She wisely invested her money in decorating her room. She was able to purchase a vanity cheaply and she refurbished her dresser to make it "hers."

She decided to give her outgrown toys to the twins.

Despite their battered appearance, Hunter and Bella loved them dearly.

On Saturday night we had three more birthdays. Troy went first.

He grew up to be a Knowledge Sim, just like me. Last time I checked, though, he hadn't decided on a lifetime goal.

Then it was my turn. As I blew out the candles, I wished for what I'd been hoping for all week: for Arik to become a zombie. Not a well thought out wish, I'll admit, but it would serve him right to become a smelly, rotten zombie.

"What kind of sick joke is this?!"

I grew up into the ugliest outfit possible. Do I seem like the cookie-baking grandmotherly type to you?

As Arik blew out his candles, I couldn't restrain my joy. One step closer to the grave, Arik!

Of course he grows up into a halfway decent outfit.

We stuffed ourselves on cake and headed out to shop for clothes.

I'm learning to ignore the mischief the teens get into. Troy enjoyed his mild revenge on his sister uninterrupted.

On Sunday morning, Hunter tried unsuccessfully to get his father's attention.

Arik was preoccupied with learning skills to help him open his new store, Instrumental. He hoped to help earn money for the household by selling musical instruments. His club just wasn't earning money selling tickets and juice.

In only one afternoon, he was able to get the raise the rank to level one, and he had a good feeling about the future success of the store.

Stats:
Playables: 38
Commercial lots: 12
College fund: $48261
Population: 152 (SM=4)

Household businesses: Arik's Bandstand - Rank 2, Instrumental - Rank 1

Notes:
I was not expecting Gretchen to get left at the altar. I was waiting for all the guests to get settled before I was going to send them to the arch to wed. I looked away for just a second, and then I spot Arik flirting with Lyndsay Louie right in front of Gretchen. She got furious, but I didn't think that would matter if she initiated the ceremony. I was so wrong.

As it turned out, Arik was pissed off at Gretchen for being angry with him (so far as I can tell) and that's why he left her at the arch. After all that time of wishing to marry Gretchen, he goes and pulls this stunt. I'm mad at him, and I'm not the only one. Gretchen spent the rest of the week wanting to see his ghost, drink his essence, and see him zombified. The last wish doesn't seem very wise to me. Yeah, let's make the guy you hate immortal so he can bug you for an eternity? Bad plan, Gretch.

Dude! I was so not expecting her to get left at the alter. I can't imagine being forced to share a house with someone like that, poor Gretchen. :C Arik, you're a silly man.

I was shocked too. I think if it were real life, he'd be out on his butt like he deserves. However, I didn't want to deal with the headache of syncing the households if I kicked him out mid-week.

I'm hoping to figure out a way to make this mess up to her. As it stands, she's set to be the first New Jennerica to achieve her lifetime want.

Mid-week is a bit of a pain in the butt, but if you turn aging off and use sethour, it's not so bad. I did that with the Bruty house. But then they only get a short week, and it's not really worth a dedicated post... blah blah blah.

May Gretchen find happiness. :3

That's not as bad as I thought. I tried to plot it out and just confused myself. I'll keep it in mind the next time it seems reasonable a Sim would move out. Thanks for the help!

What! Shame on you, Arik! Poor Gretchen! And she still has to live with him! Ugh! And those poor kids...
untidyfanuntidyfan on July 5th, 2011 03:15 am (UTC)
Arik really does give Romance Sims a bad name. His kids aren't suffering as much as poor Alexa. I do hope some payback comes his way for his actions there.

Well, that was some turn of events! A bit of drama's always good for a story, but I felt this was kinda sad, really :( Poor Gretchen. Hopefully she'll have a good life in spite of everything!
untidyfanuntidyfan on July 5th, 2011 03:18 am (UTC)
This household has always been so chock full of drama, but Arik took it from Grey's Anatomy drama all the way to failing daytime soap opera super drama. I'll have to find a way to make it up to her somehow. She deserves some good.

Arik, you bastard! I find it kind of funny that Gretchen was having revenge wishes the whole week though!

Also, I hope you feel better soon!
untidyfanuntidyfan on July 5th, 2011 03:41 am (UTC)
Gretchen's vengeful dreams really endeared her to me. I'm glad she didn't want to just sit back and take it, even though she is stuck with him for now. Maybe I'll get to indulge her next week.

Thank you for your well-wishes! I'm actually getting sick of being sick, so it must mean I'm on the mend. I hope that's what it means, anyway.

I was completely shocked as well when Arik left Gretchen at the alter! Poor Gretchen. I was so happy that they were finally going to get married and then Arik has to mess it up. I hope that Gretchen can find some happiness in her elder years at least.

I was amused with the base-gamey comment with the first wedding dress she tried on. Clever. ;)

All the children have grown up looking so interesting and unique. I quite like them.

This was a wonderful update. Also, I do hope you feel better soon. :)

I was surprised by Arik, too. After all, what did he have to be angry about? But he was, the jerk. If good wishes are enough to turn the fates for a Sim, Gretchen will be a very happy Sim soon.

Thanks! Whenever I see clothing from anything before Nightlife, I can't help but be a bit prejudiced against it. Most of it is kind of ugly. Default replacements help a lot.

This family was a small scale Queen Bee without my realizing it. Fortunately, every parent involved had good genes.

Thanks for your get well wishes. I hope I do, too!

Aww. Such wedding drama! Wonderful update. :)

Also, I hope you are feeling better! You've had an interesting time.
untidyfanuntidyfan on July 5th, 2011 06:57 am (UTC)
Thanks! This update felt like an episode of a bad soap opera with its over the top drama. It does make for an interesting story, though.

Thanks! I think I'm on the mend, but I'm going to take it easy for a bit just in case.

Gretchen is one strong sim! Hopefully the abductions and some therapy sessions will heal these wound...cause sims hurt too!
untidyfanuntidyfan on July 6th, 2011 02:41 am (UTC)
She is a tough cookie! She rolls up wants for abduction pretty often now, so that helps her a lot, but I hope that she gets even more happy events headed her way.

Wonderful and very interesting update.
I was surprised at the wedding outcome. Not what I expected (based on earlier info.....the Gretchen obsession Arik has persisted with in the updates). Really not what I expected. Not.
Well.. so sorry she didnt kick him out. But you cant expect a traumatized sim to make the right choice so close by the event. Not even if they have just had some free therapy ;)

Hope you yourself feel better.

Arik surprised us all. I was shocked when it happened. He's still rolling up wants for marriage, but just not to Gretchen.

I may plot revenge against him, or I may just kick him out. I want to make this up to Gretchen somehow!

Thank you for your get well wishes. I'm feeling loads better - today, I didn't even need ibuprofen, and I've finished my antibiotics. Still drinking plenty of water to be on the safe side.

Wow, that really was not what I was expecting! Poor Gretchen. She has really bad luck with men, it seems. Hopefully the rest of her life will be awesome even though she is stuck living with Arik.
untidyfanuntidyfan on July 21st, 2011 11:35 pm (UTC)
Me, neither. I plan on finding a way to make her life very happy, even though Arik is still around.
