BaCC: The Valjean Family, A Miserable Sims Challenge, Week Five
Gah, this entry. Every time I tried to write it, my interest meter went way down. So, I'm try to write this commentary style.

Victor got the lovely shack in New Jennerica. The Miserable Sims Challenge didn't require miserable surroundings, but it's more fun to play with them!

The first thing Victor does is whine to his journal about mean old SelfSim cursing him for trying to steal her gnome.

Then he goes out to meet his neighbor, Kevin Higgins, as he walks by. Victor looks like he has high hopes.

But starting off by gossiping isn't the way to make a friend.

Maybe pushing him wasn't the best way to convince him otherwise.

So they exchanged grouchy words.

Then they shared a giggle.

And then they went back to being rude.

Victor thought he'd try a new tactic to win over Kevin. Shelby giggled at the prank on her husband.

Kevin was, once again, less than pleased. He didn't like being embarrassed in front of his wife.

Then it was pokefest '11.

Kevin and Victor managed not to kill each other over lunch.

But chaos broke loose after lunch anyway.

It was a fight between Arik and Kevin, and Arik kicked Kevin's butt. Each fight between different Sims is worth 25 points, and it counts for ANY Sim on the lot, so they're more than welcome to duke it out here.

But, Arik had been flirting with Kevin's wife, so it's understandable why Kevin would risk his face against Arik.

Victor fails to charm Arik.

But the feeling is mutual.

Arik, c'mon, you just got together with Gretchen!

At least Victor is making one friend.

When Kevin starts grousing at his wife, it's a sign to send everyone home.

Victor eats his dinner alone, and does not set a fire. Grr.

Overall, his first day wasn't too terrible, until he fell into bed. looks uncomfortable.

The next day, Scout the Stray comes to visit. There's a whole section on misbehaving pets, so I hope to add this rascal to the family soon.

Yes, Scout will fit in nicely.

Victor doesn't get along with anyone, it seems.

Doesn't stop him from trying, though.

He meets  Calista, another secret redhead.

They actually get along, but have no chemistry at all.

Then e meets Lyndsay Louie, with whom he has two bolts.

He meets Christy Toyosomething. They get along, too.

But they only have one bolt.

Burnt food - getting a little closer to a full-on fire. Eating burnt food is also worth five points, but Lyndsay stole it before Victor could eat it.

And then she continued her rendition of Goldilocks by sleeping in his bed.

Victor built up a relationship with both girls in order to date them. After all, a trouble shared is a trouble halved.

I was having problems with a jump bug. Finally tracked it down to ACR and the leaf pile bed. So, Victor gets an upgrade. Just in time, too.

He asked Lyndsay out first, until I  remembered there were points for having a terrible date.

So he asked out Christy.

He asked out Lyndsay again during their date. Christy got upset, but it only went down to a "bad" date.

He made the most out of it.

They wound up having a dream date.

No chemistry once again. *sniffs* I will marry you into to this town, mailwoman!

Ah, Victor's first prank call.  10 points!

Victor: Huh huh, hey Kevin, do you have Prince Albert in a can?  Well, you better go let him out!

Apparently, crank calls summon the prankee.

Well, isn't that just a snotty pose?

Ah, a new face. Not like Victor hasn't met plenty of them.

Another two bolts.

Kaylynn Spitzig. I  have plans for you, girlie.

And Scout, I promise you, you will be adopted.

So Victor asked Le Shawn on a date, and then tried to ask Kaylynn, who refused him.

Le Shawn was still mad.

Not cool, Victor, not cool.

When Kaylynn did this, I thought Victor would be able to ask her on a date.

Enh, wrong.

Another fight, another 25 points.

Victor won and Kaylynn looks on happily.

This is my first time doing this.

Meanwhile, Lyndsay is outside, being a sweetheart.

Another fight!

But it doesn't count since it was just a snowman.

I can't believe it's taken so long for someone to kick his can over.

Victor is really a terrible cook.

Since he was home alone for a change, he was able to earn those points for eating burnt spaghetti.

Next day, Victor had to deal with his first roach infestation. Probably won't be his last one.

Sadly, no flu for him.

Victor: So, Le Shawn, is your refrigerator running? Well, you better go catch it!
I've run out of cheesy prank calls. I even searched for lame prank calls, but no avail. I just turned up results for people acting like idiots over the telephone.

Lyndsay gifted him with an apt likeness.

Garbage in repose with snow, #3

Marie Rauscher invited Victor for an outing. I had hoped it would be a date to screw up, but nope.

Lyndsay wound up gifting him with a computer.

And then everyone piled into a taxi to visit Shelby's Place.  They were seated, but not waited on, because of the same same-household-owner-employee glitch as my cashiering problems from an earlier update.

Victor used his new computer to find a job in the Law Enforcement career track. I've decided to let him keep the gifts he gets from townies, as a sign his luck is changing.

I call this one, "Garbage in repose with snow, #5"

Kaylynn sure is feisty. And her OTH hobby isn't sports or fitness, it's cuisine!

They share a peck on the lips before Victor scurries off to work.

Dun Dun Dun... Repo man - ten points.

This looks like a fellow who enjoys his job.

At first, I had no idea what he was taking.

Turns out he was taking the wood boarding up the window.

Yes, you Victor.

For all the trouble she's caused me in trying to marry her into this neighborhood, I decided to have Victor propose to Kaylynn. Victor has two bolts with her, but he wasn't yet in love. I thought I could snag an easy twenty-five points for rejected proposal.

Love that look she has so far...

She's not?

Dagnabit! I actually yelled out loud at this point. How dare she go along with it?

And of course she agreed to marry him. Frick-a-frack, man, frick-a-frack.

Since misery loves company, I had them get started on a generation two.

As a reward for suffering through the first week, I  thought I'd give Victor a little bit of his hair back.

10 points for each Sim who drinks a pureed boot. I think I've only done it once before, when I first got Seasons.

And then afterwards, she did a little dance.

I'm going to have to feed more Sims boots from now on. She makes cute faces.

Kaylynn: Thanks for dropping these off.
Grocery deliverywoman: Anything you say, crazy almost naked lady. Anything you say.

And Kaylynn finishes out the week with a plate of burnt spaghetti and another five points.

It's hard to make bad things happen to my Sims.

Victor would often roll up fears that other Sims would be stinky. It's a new fear for me, and I don't understand why he cares so much. His turn-off isn't even stink, it's robots.

What a fun challenge! The boot dancing was adorable, a shame he can't rack up multiple engagement failures... but at least you married in someone you were after anyway. :) I love that the statue looks like him.

Silly Arik. 8| Silly Shelby. Silly Romance sims!

That's true, and the 'curse' affects every member of the household, so I think it will be worth it anyway. Kaylynn in my other hood produced lovely offspring, and I'm eager for her to reproduce here. They're both family Sims, so the more the merrier!

These Romance Sims are going to drive me nuts. I'm dreading Shelby's household - I had just gotten them married. :(

It would be hard for me to do so many bad things to my sims since I like to make them happy, but it is kind of interesting and it is very entertaining to read about. I think that Kaylynn is cute and I am glad that you finally got her into your BaCC.

It is hard to do. Writing the backstory helped some, as did giving back a bit of his hair. If they have oodles of children (with Kaylynn's genes, I hope so) the unhappy incidents will be spread out a bit.
olivethegreatolivethegreat on May 27th, 2011 01:31 am (UTC)
That is very true. And that means that you will finish it more quickly as well. :)
Good luck with it!

I just love the picture with Viktor in the Lalalala-ICantHearYou pose. Absolutely adorable!
I like the update.

Glad you enjoyed it! Victor can make some adorable faces.

I agree that this looks like such a fun challenge! I really like that he is also living in a down and out house to begin with as well. It really does help with the mood of the challenge. :)

Scout will make a great addition to the household, both he and Victor are a bit grumpy so I imagine they could have fun together being grumpy with walkbys. :D

It does seem it would be a bit of a challenge to fulfill the fears, if only because they are sometimes things you can't really control. But still it is fun reading you try. I really enjoyed this update.

It is a lot of fun; I'd definitely recommend the challenge to anyone. Some of the negative events are easy, like the crank phone calls (Victor has absolutely no nice points,) and the roaches, but the ones that require a NPC to back out, well... it's tough.

I really hope I can adopt this Scout. They could form a gang of grouches. Kaylynn really fits in, too, since she's almost as grumpy as they are. I think New Jennerica has found the family to terrorize telescope peepers.

Victor looks like such a fun sim to play! Everything looks so grungy and well, miserable! I love it!
untidyfanuntidyfan on May 27th, 2011 01:40 am (UTC)
Thank you! It is a great deal of fun to play, and I was surprised by how much fun it is to decorate grunge style.

Victor is by far the most amusing sim I've ever seen and an absolute favorite, I can't wait to see what luck or unlucky events might come his way. Also, the garbage in repose pics made me smile, only in the sims does garbage look "good".
untidyfanuntidyfan on May 30th, 2011 02:47 am (UTC)
Glad you liked him! He is a lot of fun to play, and he's certainly growing on me.

For garbage, it is rather neat and tidy. I might have to do a painting recolor of it.
Deeasaria_deea on May 29th, 2011 05:17 pm (UTC)
Oh dear, is that how they're supposed to sleep on that bed? Anyway, yay for a normal one XD
And that's so cute that you gave him "a bit" of his hair back :) Kaylynn is a great wife, I'm sure they'll have lovely kids :D
Great update !
untidyfanuntidyfan on May 30th, 2011 02:50 am (UTC)
Thanks! Not only do they just lie there on the floor, but they fall backwards into it. No sitting down, just plop! and they're off to the land of Nod.

I think at certain points, I'll give him more of his hair/dignity back. He also got some touristy clothes - still humiliating, but not as uncomfortable.

I can't wait for their kids. I'm betting they'll have big eyes like their mom.

Late, late, late, but I just found your BACC, so!

LOVE THIS. I have never heard of this challenge, but it's awesome! I love how his luck turns just a bit as you go on, too!

And for future reference, if you ever need more crank calls, Bart Simpson calling Moe's Tavern. Absolute classics.
untidyfanuntidyfan on May 21st, 2012 04:54 am (UTC)
Aw, I hope you'll enjoy the next one, then. It will have another miserable Sims challenge, but I don't think that it will have the awesome backstory that I created for this one.

I am definitely hunting down YouTube videos of Bart's crank calls for the next miserable Sim to use. Thanks for the tip!
