BACC: The Higgins Family, Week Five

The birthday party was over, but a few guests lingered. As the Higgins family got into bed, the guests got into a fight.

It was Gretchen and Craig Ray. They were on the rocks, but no one thought things were that bad.

Gretchen won the fight, but in these situations, does anyone really win?

The Higgins family didn't pay any attention to the scuffle downstairs. Carly was well-rested for the day ahead. Her chores included things like cleaning the tub and making her bed, and as a reward, her parents let her water and keep the harvest from the simoleon tree. Usually she pocketed a cool forty smackers a couple of times a day.

Carly wasn't concerned about her first day of school. She had met her neighbors at her birthday party last night, and they had a little girl who was exactly her age.

After she saw Carly off to school and Kevin off to work, Shelby headed to Sartorial Success, hoping to improve its success before she had to rush back home to meet the school bus.

The Cohens were a sweet couple, it was true, but they drove business owners in the area crazy. They loved to window-shop, and if they spotted on another, they'd spend the day kissing and dancing in the corner.

Not only had Shelby improved her rank to a Rank 5, she had also improved the neighborhood's choice in clothing. Her store was becoming known as the place to go for new clothes and fashion advice.

All of the wonderful changes and improvements in her neighbors got Shelby to thinking. Maybe it was time for her to change, too.

She shelled out a few thousand of her hard earned aspiration points to purchase a ReNuYu Senso-Orb. She poked her head into the orb and hoped for the best. After the machine finished reformatting her brain, she realized she was now a popularity Sim who wanted to become a celebrity chef.

In order to become a celebrity chef, New Jennerica would need a restaurant, but Shelby felt she was just the Sim to open it.

She brushed up on her cooking skills as Kevin learned more about his favorite hobby, tinkering. She related her idea to him, and as always, he was supportive of her new goals. He had no idea how the profound change she had made in her personality would affect their lives together.

Carly brought her new friend, Alexa, home from school.

Carly, Alexa, and her mother had a nice dinner in the kitchen with a little girl talk on the side.

Shelby sent Alexa home after dinner and then helped Carly with her schoolwork.

Tuesday afternoon, Carly brought home another Ray child with her. This time it was Troy Ray. He and Alexa got along marvellously.

Sela Sheedy tried to sneak up and steal the Higgins' newspaper, but the family was right there.

Troy seemed to take great offense to Sela's behavior for some reason. "You meanie! Give that back!" he yelled at Sela's retreating back. Carly just shrugged; this wasn't the first time that a neighbor stole her family's paper.

Kevin had a day off, and Shelby encouraged him to join him at Sartorial Success. He could help sell things, or restock if that would be better.

Danielle Lilliard's new look was completed.

The Cohens were up to their usual antics.

Shelby called it a day after the business was two stars from rank seven. Kevin went back to studying tinkering texts, Carly colored at her activity table, and Shelby improved her cooking skill by watching television.

Shelby went to Sartorial Success once more, to get the final two stars and the cash prize she would earn with them.

After she won the prize, she purchased Shelby's Place. She was quite proud of her new restaurant, where she hoped to serve fresh fish dishes with the catches from the small ponds out front. Kevin was supposed to help her run the restaurant, but he was more interested in fishing.

Shelby thought it wise to hire a chef. This woman was highly recommended, with a maximized cooking skill. Shelby would fill in if needed, but she wanted to focus on a career as a chef more.

Kevin worked as a waiter opening night, but the first table he served received a salad in the lap rather than the cheesecake Annwn ordered.

After apologizing profusely, he delivered the correct order to her, and she gobbled it down enthusiastically.

The next two customers, Calista Fuchs and Lyndsay Louie, also enjoyed their meals at Shelby's Place. The restaurant was able to achieve a rank one opening night.

Kevin and Shelby opened Shelby's Place for lunch the next day, and brought restaurant up to rank two. Shelby took a nap before heading into work at 5 pm.

Orion Ray came home with Alexa Friday afternoon. They had a lot of fun chatting together.

Carly stayed up late to give her mom a welcome home hug after work that night.

Shelby made cookies for Carly and her friends Saturday morning.

Alexa had invited Troy Ray over.

She also invited Danni Charming over, too, in case Kevin needed to go into work. As it turned out, Kevin wanted to stay home from work.

Shelby returned early from work, and grilled hamburgers for everyone.

Saturday night, Shelby finally found the courage to propose.

"Kevin," she said, "I've made a lot of changes in my life to be with you. I'm happy I've made them. There's just one last change I'd like to make: I'd like to change my last name. Will you marry me?"

Naturally, Kevin said yes. He was pleased to become a traditional family at last.

They celebrated becoming more offical in a good old-fashioned way.

They met underneath the arch set up on the back patio and exchanged wedding vows.

Afterwards, they cut the cake and partied into the night.

It's okay! Easy mistake to make, no harm done. :)

Thank you! I think the Higgins wanted to make up for all the craziness the Fisker household had.

This is the first couple to cut the cake and not smash it all over their faces.

Edited for grammar. These is... good gravy.

How nice. Slowly expanding the neighborhood is certainly interesting in terms of being able to see your other families out and about when you are not controlling them. :)

I really do like the little touches you give with your rounds, such as baking cookies for the kids or grilling out. Sometimes it can get so easy to get caught up in skill grinding and such that I miss those fun little things.

Opening a restaurant is fun! I imagine that Shelby will have it thriving in no time.

I do like having the kids from various households grow up together. The Rays' fight came a little early, timeline wise.

I'm so prone to the skill grinding, too. Shelby just loves to cook, and I like having a fridge stocked with left-overs for the kids.

Shelby's restaurant looks great. And I am glad that they finally got married. :)

Thank you! I'm glad they're married, too. I was getting a little anxious with Shelby's untethered Romance Sim past.

I agree, the restaurant looks lovely, great choice of table cloths!

Thank you! The tablecloth is one of my favorite parts of the restaurant. Normally I avoid busy prints, but it fit the color scheme so well. I think I found it in the 2010 GOS Secret Santa.
