BACC: The Fisker Family, Week Five
This week in the Fisker family was something else. I expected things to blow up in their faces, just not quite like it did. Sort of blew up in my face, too. I have to say, I took me about a week to write this, because I'd write for a few screenshots, get stumped as to how to connect it to the next series of pics and put writing off for another day, rinse and repeat.

In the wee hours of Monday, the men of the Fisker household were doing their part to care for the brood.

Arik was helping to pottytrain Troy.

Craig fed Orion after he had bathed Baby.

Before turning in for the night, Craig spoke with his wife, making innuendos about returning to bed with him. Their schedules had diverged since she had been staying home with the children, taking care of them during the day while he and Arik worked.

Why can't there be a snow day today? Alexa thought. She had been feeling increasingly nervous since last night about her first day of school. She worried the other kids wouldn't like her.

Gretchen knew Alexa wasn't excited about meeting the other kids of New Jennerica Elementary, and asked her eldest to look out for her.

"Yeah, sure, Ma." He was too busy stuffing his face with cereal to give the idea the full consideration she thought it deserved. She knew that kids could be cruel, especially to someone who looked different than most. Gretchen also knew that pushing the subject with Clifford would only make him less inclined to do what she asked, so she dropped the conversation. In the back of her mind, she still worried.

Gretchen spent the rest of the morning teaching Troy to talk.

She also repaired the computer, which had been breaking more and more often. Soon they would need a replacement, but with seven mouths to feed and Arik's floundering business, it would just have to wait.

Arik returned early that day after making a bad decision which earned a demotion. It was a good thing he didn't really want to go far as studio musician, because he continually made poor choices that kept him from proceeding to rock stardom.

That night was Orion's birthday. Craig brought him to the cake and helped him with the candles. Cliffy and Alexa celebrated with them but it was really a ploy to get a slice of birthday cake and an excuse to ignore homework.

Arik didn't attend the impromptu birthday party that night, and instead practiced an important speech.

"Gretchen, I'd like it if you... No, that's too pushy. Gretchen, you mean the world to me, and I hope you'll consider..."

After the party, the children went about their various activities. Clifford had taken up ballet.

Orion played horsies.

Alexa was preoccupied with finding the source of that strange noise above her head. It sounded like someone snapping a camera, but that couldn't be.

The next afternoon, Arik began his speech.

"Gretchen, I love you. I hope one day you'll consider leaving Craig and-"

"Shh... let's go someplace more quiet to discuss this."

There wasn't a discussion at all.

They had barely gotten dressed before Craig got home from work. Gretchen thought it best to distract him from her guilty expressions.

And once again, Orion had to find ways to amuse himself.

Caring for the children was interrupted often the next day by waves of morning sickness. The nausea was compounded by the sickening wonder about which man was the father. Both had their positives and negatives, but deep down, Gretchen hoped Arik would finally have a child of his own. He had started to settle down and behave like an adult, and he was so good with her children even though he wasn't even related to them! Craig, on the other hand, was her husband and the better earner for the family. If he wasn't the father, he'd probably leave and take Clifford and Orion with him. The other children would be devastated, and she would miss her babies.

These worries would have to wait; she had to deal with the day ahead of her first.

She managed to head to the lab for a couple of hours while Craig stayed home to wait for the children to get off the bus. Gretchen still had a stockpile of vacation days left, but she was beginning to forget what the lab looked like and she was hoping to get a promotion soon.

Arik was reinstated to his old position.

Gretchen hurried to Bytes and Bots to purchase a birthday present for Cliffy. There was going to be a double birthday party at 6, and she was already worn from working all day. This pregnancy was more tiring than usual, probably because she was so close to elder transition, less than two weeks away.

Cliffy invited Carly Barrett over after school, and the children played until it was time for the birthday party.

Cliffy grew up to be almost the carbon copy of his father. The only exception was his nose. His nose seemed to be a combination of his mother's and his father's, straighter than his father's, though it would never be a smooth as his mother's.

His close friendship and admiration of Arik was made known to the family when Cliff declared his aspiration and lifetime desire, which was to have twenty simultaneous lovers.

Gretchen gave him his only birthday present that year: a new cellphone. Clifford was excited to be able to take calls somewhere else besides the kitchen. This gift of privacy more than made up up for the lack of presents.

Troy's birthday was that night, too.

His gift was also practical, new clothes. Troy preferred his dragon costume and refused to wear anything else for three days.

Troy and Cliff got along marvellously, which was especially advantageous, since they had to share a room.

And Alexa's worry about the other kids liking her proved to be unfounded. Not only did she make friends with her siblings and Danni Charming, she was on her way to "bestest friends forever" with Carly Barrett. They were the same age and next door neighbors, which helped enforce the friendship.

Danni and Clifford had grown up together. Sometime in their childhood, they declared they were best friends forever, and since that day, they were never separated long.

To Clifford, it only made sense to take things a step further. On a typical afternoon, Clifford took a step towards his childhood friend, and a step toward changing their relationship forever.

After Clifford and Danni shared their first kiss, it was time to share Orion's birthday cake. He was going to become a big boy that day, and he and Craig were so excited.

One night, Arik invited an old friend on a date to his home. He had warned her he expected an eventful night in the bedroom, and so she immediately agreed.

His plans were far different from what Danielle had imagined.

He gave her a makeover.

"Why, Arik," she said, "It's wonderful! I look like a different person!"

The rest of Friday and early Saturday were quietly spent. Troy daydreamed about travelling.

Danni, who was becoming a fixture around the house, and Orion played video games together.

Gretchen "supervised" by yelling instructions for how to kick butt in SSX3.

Arik and Clifford discussed guitars. Arik had just won the "Axe of Darkness," an awesome, top-of-the-line guitar, from work.

The kids played in the street until Craig's carpool came. They busied themselves with other activities after that.

Saturday afternoon marked another big change for Clifford and Danni's relationship. He turned on his Romance Simness and lured Danni to the bedroom. They had a quick discussion about preventive measures. No way Danni was going to wind up like her sister. She didn't want another crying, screaming baby of her own just yet.

Then it was straight to business. Clifford knew that he'd love many women, and probably a few men, in his lifetime, but he'd always have a special place for Danni. He didn't stop to think how Danni would feel about this big step towards adulthood.

Labor pains interrupted the evening.

She held her baby girl for just a moment before she realized something life-changing: another child was on the way.

She handed baby Belladonna to Arik so she could give birth to Belladonna's twin.

Gretchen held Hunter over her head, appraising him and the situation she was in. Now she knew that the father was Arik, but Craig would know, too. How would she break the news to him?

Craig walked in the house before she had a chance to decide. He took one look at the newborns, and stormed to their bedroom.

Clifford took Belladonna into the kitchen for a bottle. He tried not to hear the fight that was starting upstairs.

Meanwhile, Arik was in his room with Hunter, doing the same thing. This would not end happily.

Craig started yelling as Gretchen entered the room. "Those children aren't mine, are they?!"

She tried to answer in a soothing, matter-of-fact manner. "No, Craig, they aren't."

"What the hell were you thinking? How could you do this to me?" He interrupted her.

Gretchen lost her temper at that. He had played favorites, ignored her, and mistreated Clifford, but here he was, playing the victim.

"How could I do this to you?" She spat. "What about your behavior? You ignored the kids for the most part, swooping in to be a glory hog at birthdays. All you could think about when I was abducted was what great fun it would be to meet the aliens, not giving a damn about how I felt, ever! Arik was there for me, he cared for me, he loved me! That's what I was thinking. You were too busy with your books and your job to notice."

She drew a breath and continued, "You ignored Clifford when you realized he wasn't as bright as you thought he should be. Orion is your favorite, and you didn't forget to rub it in Clifford's face every chance you get."

"That's just ridiculous and you know it," he said.

"Do you know what else I know? I know Clifford became a romance Sim with the very same life goal as Arik because he admires him more than you. I can't blame him. There's nothing admirable about you, you selfish pig."

"That's it. I'm done. I'm through with you."

"We are over, and it's all your fault." Craig emphasized each word with a jab of his finger. "I hope you'll be happy with broke, childish, cheating Arik. You know, you deserve each other. Neither of you can stay out of someone else's bed."

He stood back, watching the hurt expression on her face, marvelling at how it quelled his anger. Now that he was calmer, he thought of a way to hurt her even more.

"I'll take Clifford with me, since I know you can't afford to keep him with all the other brats you've got."

"What? No, you can't!"

"Please! I'll do anything! Just let me keep my baby with me!"

Seeing the tears in her eyes made Craig feel terrible, worse than he had when he realized she cheated. No matter how badly she wounded him and his pride, she didn't deserve to be antagonized like this. He just wanted to hurt her more than she hurt him.

"Look, we'll ask him what he wants to do," Craig said quietly. "He's almost an adult, he should get a say."

Gretchen nodded and snuffled. She was losing the battle to hold back her tears.

"But it's over between us," he said, "forever."

A little while later, Gretchen and Craig did the last thing they'd ever do as a couple: they asked Clifford where he wanted to live.

"With you and Arik, of course," he said to Gretchen.

Craig's heart sank. He had hoped what Gretchen had told him about Clifford wasn't true. Craig hoped he'd find a way to mend his relationship with Clifford some day. Today, though, he had to gather his and Orion's things and move out to the apartments.

After Craig had left, Arik found Gretchen in Troy's room.

"I'm so glad I can have you all to myself now," he said, "because it means I can do this any time I want."

He kissed her warmly and deeply, right in front of the kids.

Life at the Fisker home quickly took on new patterns. Settling into them was like putting on a new pair of perfectly fitting jeans: you marvelled at how much happier and comfortable you were and how quickly you grew accustomed to them.

Notes:
I'm kind of sad about Craig and Gretchen breaking up. Originally I thought they were so "Ment2B" or whatever the youngsters are saying these days. But, I'm glad that Arik is getting what he's been desiring for so long. He finally earned enough aspiration perks to get a secondary aspiration, and, as you might have guessed, it's family. He started rolling up all sorts of wants for proposals and marriages, not just to Gretchen. He wanted to marry somebody. It worked out that she happened to fall pregnant and give birth to a baby that looked too much like him to ignore.

Speaking of the babies, I was expecting just one. I knew the father was Arik because of the absence of the "Try for Baby" option when she woohooed Craig. I had no clue about the twins, and when I saw that screen pop up, I considered crying. This is the craziest household for me to play and twins would not help. This was another reason for Gretchen and Craig to get divorced.

High-five to Arik, man. I'm interested to see what life will be like for Craig and Orion, it seems like it would be pretty lonely for Craig, but I suppose that depends on how affected he is by leaving Gretchen.

Lol, the game always gives you twins when you don't really want them. It's very good at that. :P

Craig is still pretty angry. I've only played the Higgins-Barrett family, and he'll walk by, stop, and stomp his little blockfoot and think flaming thoughts about her. He could be pissed that he only got $3000 to move out with. His apartment cost $824 + deposit. It will be very tough the first couple of weeks at the Ray apartment, that's for sure.

I didn't even whisper the prayer of "Please not twins, anything but twins" in front of the game. That's a surefire way to get them, if you seriously don't want them. At least I don't have the triplets/quads hack.

Sigh, I see a lot of stolen newspapers ahead. :C

I hope Orion copes okay, poor kid. :C At least Craig has a job, that will help. Just don't get fired, dude.

And kicked garbage cans, too. Maybe I'll have Troy Charming whip up a sentrybot for the family.

Orion should be okay - I loaded up a couple of the toys and his bed into his inventory, so his basic needs will be addressed. If Craig gets fired, though, I will kick his Simmy butt.

I am kind of glad that Arik and Gretchen are together now. I think that Arik will treat her much better than Craig did.

I think he will, too. It looks like he'll shower her with attention any chance he gets. I just hope he sticks only to her. Craig moving out has taken a lot of tension out of the house, that's for sure.

Wow, I was not expecting this break up! It's definitely tough to see your beloved sims split up their family, but sometimes it just has to be done. And it sounds like it really needed to happen this time. I'm interested in seeing what these twins look like when they get bigger, since they have a different father than the others.

I was leaving decision until I laid eyes on the baby. But then there were two. I have that hack that allows more than 8 sims to be in the household, but this would have been too crazy to handle.

I'm quite eager to see the twins grow up, especially Hunter. Arik has been the neighborhood heartthrob, and I hope his son will be the same. Maybe not a romance Sim, though.

I'm actually rather glad to see that Arik and Gretchen finally got together. Sad about Grethcen and Craig but I just like her with Arik better. Probably because I don't like Craig quite as much. ;)

The children grew up rather well, all very interesting and unique looking I think. They also seem to be taking the break up extremely well. I'm surprised that they are not mad at Arik and Gretchen over it.

The surprise twins will be interesting to see as they age. I bet they will be adorable.

Now that they're together officially, I'm very glad - they make a bit of an unlikely couple, aspirationally, but Arik has always been so sweet to her.

Craig has turned out to be a bit of a bad guy, but maybe he'll redeem himself on his own.

I know that if kids catch adults cheating on their spouses, they can go into the annoying NL furiousness, but not these kids. They're all "Oh, Mom's necking the guy we live with for no apparent reason? No big deal."

I can't wait for the twins to hit toddlerdom. I suspect they'll slay us all with adorability.

Wow, what a week for the Fisker family! But I'm glad the family has settled into their new routine :D

I was expecting some life changing events, but nothing like this! It was really a breath of fresh air on Sunday, not to worry about a fight breaking out. I hate when couples resort to fisticuffs.

Congratulations of the Sim Storytellers' Spotlight, btw.

Well, that went well ^^
(You're in denial of your grilled cheese hidden obsession: that kid in pic#5 is definitely not eating cereal)

I totally didn't notice that! If I could make a decent grilled cheese, I would eat them all the time.
