BACC: The Higgins Family, Week Four

In the late hours of that Monday night, Shelby gave birth to Carly Barrett.

She pulled the classic dump-the-baby-on-the-floor routine. In her defense, she was very hungry.

Kevin stepped in to take care of his baby girl.

Kevin took care of a lot of things around the house. When the bathtub broke, he fixed it. When Carly needed a fresh diaper, he changed her. Shelby did her part by selling paintings whenever she could, but the primary breadwinner and housekeeper was Kevin.

That's why it hurt Kevin's ego so badly when he was demoted. He answered just one question wrong and the powers-that-be sent him back to band camp - in the off season.

But after having a short pity party, he resumed life as usual. He paid the bills.

He helped Carly with her birthday.

He was pleased as punch when he realized Carly looked almost exactly like him. The only difference were her eyes - she had her mother's eyes. Privately, Kevin nicknamed her "Harriet Potter."

Upon reaching a high creativity skill level, Shelby started making and selling pot holders. She was hoping to become skillful enough with the sewing machine that she could tailor an outfit to an individual Sim and sell them in a shop.

Since Kevin stayed so busy with his job, most of the toddler training fell to Shelby. She didn't mind, in fact, she felt that it should be her responsibility. That way, Kevin could come home after a hard day's work and play with his little girl and have fun. He deserved that much.

At nights, after Carly was tucked into her crib and Shelby was busy sewing, Kevin would dig for treasures to sell. His efforts paid off when he found an actual treasure chest, which he sold for §5,000. Now the Higgins/Barrett household had enough money to buy the clothing shop Shelby dreamed of owning.

It was called Sartorial Success, and Shelby very much hoped it would be a success. Her first customer, Ethan Barrett, no relation, looked like he needed her help.

The shop quickly filled with customers from throughout New Jennerica.

Shelby felt her biggest success that night was the new outfit she sold to Gretchen Ray.

In fact, Gretchen was so pleased with it that she asked to change before going home.

The next day brought more success Shelby's way. First, the reporter who evaluated businesses for the SimCity Chronicle visited. Shelby personally spent time caring for him, and because of her hard work, he gave her a good review and the "Best of the Best" award. He didn't say whether she was the best clothing store in the tri-city area or just New Jennerica, but Shelby wasn't going to complain at any rate!

In order to make the store profitable that day, Shelby dug for treasure. She wasn't going to let her shop be a burden on the family. She struck it rich when she found a treasure chest. She spent about §3,800 on improvements to the shop and socked the rest away in the family bank account.

Every boutique needs a chandelier.

That Sunday promised to be a big day for the family. Carly was going to grow up at 6 pm. Shelby insisted on making it a party.

Kevin spent a little time outside, ostensibly testing Carly's birthday present (to himself), but really trying to hide his nervousness at Carly's birthday.

At about 6:30, all the guests who were going to arrive had, and Shelby helped Carly blow out the candles

La Shawn Cameron and Arik Fisker couldn't make it because of work and called to make their apologies, but the Rays were able to come.

The Rays were a funny couple. Sometimes they seemed like they didn't like one another, then other times they seemed perfectly in sync.

But the Higgins household was a happy one, and that's all that mattered to Kevin.

Stats:
Playables: 16
Commercial lots: 4 - I've earned two new households so far this week!
College fund: $7801
Population: 32 (sim multiplier = 2)
Sartorial Success - Rank

Notes:
Carly Barrett has a personality of 4/9/7/8/7, so she's a Libra.
Finally, New Jennerica has a clothing shop, complete with the ubiquitous boutique chandelier.

I love Gretchen's new look. No more trendy Gretchen! I'm betting Carly will be a knock-out when she becomes a teen.

Ah, finally got a small clothing store, how very nice! I also like how you've decorated it and even put in a boutique chandelier. ;)

Carly looks quite adorable. Also, quite lucky to manage two treasure chests from digging about. My sims tend to get a lot of bones and rocks.

I like how each of your households is unique and wonderfully interesting in their own ways. The dynamics of each of the families is really beginning to take shape, I think and I'm still very much so enjoying following along with your BACC.

Thank you! I couldn't resist adding the chandelier. I happened to read a fashion and design blog about the boutique chandelier phenomena and had to do it!

They get their fair share of rock and bones, too, but in the case of the first chest, that's what I was digging for. The second one was just a bonus. I just wanted the shop to break even for the day.

I'm glad you're enjoying the challenge too! The Higgins are quite nice to play after the menagerie that is the Fisker household. Funny how much two Romance Sims can differ!

Thanks! It's my favorite lot in New Jennerica. The pastels aren't something I typically enjoy, but it wound up being a wonderful combination for the boutique.
